It is with the utmost pride and admiration that we announce Terry Archibald Shanks is now at peace after his strong and courageous 9 year fight with an unrelenting disease. At the age of 64, Terry completed his journey in his home and in his favourite chair surrounded by his family. Terry’s wife Madeline Shanks was his greatest support, strength, and love throughout a wonderful life and a blissful 32 year marriage. She will carry him with her in her heart. He is survived by his pride and joys Jessica Puchnatyj (Stefan), Chris Shanks, Margaret Shanks, Marlene Shanks, and his ultimate joy, grandson Logan Puchnatyj. Terry with be lovingly missed by ALL including his mother Elaine Shanks and his siblings: Al Shanks (Mavis), Brent Shanks, Don Shanks (Mary Jo), Deb Shanks (Derek White), Scott Shanks (Michele), Ann Fife (Bill), Dave Dodman (Lynda), Carman (Vickie), Billy Dodman (Stella), Mike Dodman (Denise), Peter Dodman (Miriam), Beth Pollock (Dan), and Karen McCarter (Ted). He also always held a special place in the heart of his Auntie Jane and his mother in law Margaret Steinberg. He will be greatly missed by his many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He adored his 75 nieces and nephews and 63 great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Bob Shanks, brother Ronald Shanks, father in-laws John Dodman and Howard Steinburg, brother in-law Bobby Dodman, Uncle Bill Shanks (Audrey) and great nephew Journey Stickney. He resided in the former Romney township all his life and served on Romney council. He built many of the breakwalls, jetties, and retaining walls that protect the shoreline and will for many years to come. Terry was a jack of all trades and master of many. If you needed something mended, designed or created he was your go-to guy. He enjoyed his regular tour of the neighbourhood visiting family and friends with special daily stops at Manufarm and his mother’s house. Terry could often be found at Talbot Street United Church singing in the choir, helping with pie-making, cooking and serving for church suppers, playing Santa, or just entertaining the crowd with his stories. He was adored by Cheryl Jarecsni and all his ladies at the Chatham Chemo Suite, the team at Elston’s Pharmacy, his nurse Lisa DeBeck, and his NP’s Rtia Dibiase and Jon Ann Meko. It was entirely mutual. With their stellar care and that of Dr. Michael Sanatani and his nurse Julie, Dr. Robert Mayo, and Dr. David Sullivan, Terry not only surpassed even the most guarded expectations but never let his diagnosis determine his attitude and outlook. Words cannot express how this great loss will impact our family and community. Terry will be forever missed, and forever remembered. Visitation will take place at Terry Shanks’ Residence in his new Shop (3564 Talbot Trail) July 3rd 2-5pm and 7-9pm. The funeral will be July 4th at 11am in the same location. **** Donations can be made to the Chatham Kent Health Alliance Chemo Suite or Talbot Street United Church.
