Liz Roberts CSPWC, died 6 March, 2022, peacefully, surrounded by family, at her home in Riverview Gardens Longterm Care. She was 94. Liz was born in 1927 in Surrey, England. After the start of the blitz, she was sent from the family home to live in the relative safety of the countryside. At the age of 21 Elizabeth Margaret Roberts (née Pett) moved to Canada with her parents and her future husband, Glyn, settling first in Montreal before moving to Milton in 1954. She was proud of her four boys, Trevor (Carolyn), Alan (Maryann), David (Janet) and Glyn (Jane). After retirement as a government lab inspector in 1995, Liz moved to Calgary until returning to Ontario in 2013 to live near son Alan who, along with Maryann helped Liz embark on her new life. The family will be forever grateful for Maryann’s tireless, loving support of Liz, in the years after Alan’s untimely death, and how the entire Vermey family pulled Liz into their big, warm embrace. An accomplished water colourist and member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), Liz served with her usual competence and energy as registrar for the Society’s 2006 bi-annual symposium in Calgary. She was an active participant at Leighton Art Center outside Calgary, a place she especially loved, spending many happy hours in pleine air outings. Liz took part in numerous juried shows in Alberta and Ontario, her work often receiving awards. She shared freely her skill as a teacher, and her love of painting with fellow Art Club members at the Active Lifestyle Centre. Liz was a devoted daughter to Ernest, whom she adored, and Margaret (née Harding). Sister to David and Sylvia, Liz leaves seven grandchildren – TR, Adam, Gary, Bryan, Lauren, Evan, and Richelle – and four great-grandchildren, Callum, Hazel, Thomas, and Lennon. Right up to her last week, Liz painted, making gifts of her art to friends and caregivers at Riverview Gardens. The family thanks, from the bottom of our hearts, Riverview staff for the kindness, professionalism, and love they showed Liz every single day of her life there. Thank you also to James (at Life Transitions) for compassionate service, once again, to the Roberts and Vermey families. We are proud of Liz and take comfort in her long life, well-lived. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Life Transitions Burial and Cremation Service Inc. Private memorial to follow. Donations may be made in Liz’s name to the Leighton Art Centre www.leightoncentre.org
