Obituary for Kenneth Gilhula

We are sad to say good bye to Kenneth Charles Joseph Gilhula. Ken passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the age of 75. He leaves behind his dear wife, Marie (nee MacDonald). They built a beautiful life together and Ken was proud of his children, Shawn (Sheri), Shannon, Robin (Peter Horar). He loved his role as “Grandpa” and will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Aidan (Tori) Gilhula, Cara (Brody) Higgs, Owen Gilhula, Ashlynn Gilhula, Ava Horar, and Regan Horar and by his great granddaughter Scarlett Higgs.

Ken was born in Chatham to the late Florence and Wilfred Gilhula. He was last surviving member of the Gilhula siblings as he is pre-deceased by his sisters, Jean Elgie and Mary Lou Reid and brothers, Bill (Shirley), Jack, Jimmy, sister-in-law Darlene and brother-in-law John Foran. Ken is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Joanne Gilhula and Reg and Kathie MacDonald, Dale and Karen MacDonald and Sandy MacDonald. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.

A resident of Lighthouse Cove, Ken was known to always be willing to help and share his expertise or one of his many random facts. He was an avid sports fan, and loved baseball and hockey. He worked proudly as a meat cutter and was a skilled tradesman. We will dearly miss our husband, dad and friend. There will be a celebration of life to honour Ken at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Ken’s name to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance or Chatham-Kent Hospice.
