A fond farewell to long-time Chatham resident, (Helen) Kathleen (Kathy) Moore, who was called to Heaven’s Commissary on September 29, 2019.  She overcame great adversities in her life to become a kind, generous, and fun-loving person, and her determination and work ethic were truly commendable.  She worked diligently at the Southwest Regional Centre for 30 years with the developmentally disabled; was a teacher’s aide and helped the deaf community through sign language; owned and operated “My Place Café”; was a mail carrier at the Chatham Post Office for  many years; and later established her current business, What’s 4 Dinner,” which was created out of her love for the culinary arts, along with her commitment to give back to her community. Kathy will be remembered as a person with a big heart, who could make anyone in her presence belly laugh until it hurt.  She was devoted to her family and friends, passionate about cooking, loved travelling, and was dedicated to all the endeavours she pursued and the loved ones she held dear. Kathy will be joining her mother Helen Austin; her father Robert Watson (Bob); her mother Shirley Miller and father Clarence (Bud) Miller; the father of her children, William (Bill) Moore; her brothers Dennis and Rick; beloved pets Buffy, Snookie, Skippy, Buddy, Ganja, and Crackers; and many wonderful friends. She leaves many loved ones to cook and laugh on their own, including her partner Lee Jackson; her children Kelly (Nathan) Dietrich, Kerrie (Gary) Hind, Kyle (Genevieve Dahan) Moore, and Kevin Moore; her “adopted” children Stephanie (Andrew) Wilcox, Paige Flint, Andrew Jackson, and Becca Webster; her sisters, Susan Labombard (Rick), Denise (JB) Badgley, Brenda Austin, and Laurie Austin-Brown (Andy); her brothers, Brian (Diane) Miller, and John Austin; her grandchildren Kaidence, Karlee, Mac, Mollie, Kalen Rachel and Cheyene; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Kathy provided us with a lot of material throughout her 68 years, and we could write a book on all her antics – most of which are absolutely hilarious! Whether it’s smuggling cheese across the USA/Canadian border, to parenting random animals, traveling Thailand with her sons, and so many more; the memories she left behind are etched in our hearts and are priceless.    A classic Kathy story: Kathy was left at the beach in Manzanillo, Mexico only to realize three (3) hours later that she was missing. With no phone, no money and not able to speak Spanish, she wasn’t upset at the situation and was joking about it right away.  This is a true testament to Kathy’s character, as she didn’t sweat the small stuff and could see humour in almost anything. Kathy left a huge impact on everyone she met, and her love, encouragement and sense of humour will live on through the memories she left behind.  She truly was a kind soul with a big heart, who had the ability to love effortlessly and unconditionally.   In closing this chapter of her life, a befitting quote: “Some family trees have beautiful leaves and some just have a bunch of nuts. Remember, it is the nuts that make the tree worth shaking.”  A Celebration of Life will be held on October 13, 2019 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at the Moose Lodge at 850 Richmond Street in Chatham, and any donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice .
