Obituary for June Horney (Wellington)

June Evelyn Horney, of Chatham, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Born in Toronto 82 years ago, daughter of the late Rev. Stanley and Ivy Wellington. Loving wife of Ken Horney for more than 60 years and cherished mother of Jonathan Horney (Lisa) of Chatham and Melissa Carson (Jim) of Toronto. Proud grandmother of Josh Horney (Kylie), Kirsten Horney, Olivia Carson & Cameron Devine (Taylor). Predeceased by her sister Marg Tomczak (Ron). June will also be missed by extended family, several nieces and nephews, and friends.
June lived her life focused on her faith and her family. In 1954, June moved from New Brunswick to Brantford, Ontario where she served the Lord in youth work, Sunday school and choir at Shenstone Baptist Church, for 15+ years. She and Ken moved to Chatham, Ontario in 1973 where June continued to serve in the same capacities at Emmanuel Baptist Church for 40+ years. An avid reader, gardener and sports fan (Adian Bulldogs, Toronto Maple Leafs & Blue Jays), June also took great pride in creating ceramics, crafting and capturing special moments on her camera.  She looked forward to spending time each winter on Fort Myers Beach at Island Towers.  Known as an encourager and prayer warrior, June's gentle heart and loving spirit will be missed by all of those that knew her.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the amazing staff on the 4th floor at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Hospital who gave such amazing kindness and care to June in her final days. All are welcome to attend a time of visitation with the family on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Emmanuel Baptist Church (100 McNaughton Ave W. Chatham) from 9:30 am -11 am followed immediately with a Celebration of June's Life at 11 am. Pastor Rick Baker officiating. Donations can be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
