Obituary for Julie Slack

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Julie Christine Slack. At her home, with her daughter Kristie at her side. Julie fought  a long courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, and passed away on September 19, 2019. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Kristie (Chris Goodhue) and Kyla Buckingham and Step-daughter Lindsay Lawson. She was the most adored daughter of Marilyn (Marnie) Slack and the late Stanley Slack. She was the cherished Nana of Hailey and Blake Butler, Nolan Schleihauf, Landon Buckingham and Carson Pevec. Dearly loved sister of Linda & Chris Dunham, Billy (Lady) Slack, Lori Slack & Jeff Pelletier, and predeceased by her baby brother Brian. Very best friend to her dear Mary MacDonald. Julie was the ever cherished “Aunt Dodi” to many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many dear relatives from North Carolina; Bill Slack (Lynn) and family, and from Kitchener, Jody Slack (Nancy) and family. Julie was your favourite server at Leaky Tank and Skyview Restaurants over the years. She loved all her regular customers. She had a passion for pleasing and helping people, and putting a smile on their faces. She had a committed type of love and never gave up on those of us, even in our darkest hours. She had an extremely unconditional love for her two girls, Kristie (Chris Goodhue) and Kyla, and she cherished her grand kids with all of her heart. They were her life. She treasured her special sleepovers with Carson and her special weekends at the trailer with Hailey, Nolan, Blake and Landon. She was so proud of all 5 of them. One of Julie’s fondest memories that she spoke of often was driving through the mountains of West Virginia, North Carolina, to visit family every summer. She watched The Waltons every day because it reminded her of those times. She had a special place in her heart for her dear family in the South. Family was most important to Julie. Sunday visits with her dear Mom and all of her friends at Albany Retirement home in Petrolia. She was very grateful for her special bond with her big brother Billy and her sisters, Linda and Lori. She very much enjoyed going for long car rides and playing backgammon with her loving friend Mary. She is now reunited with her brother, Brian and her Daddy, who she missed terribly. We would like to extend a very special thank you to her extra caring home care nurse, Sheila from VON, Dr. Greensmith, Dr. Lau and all the staff at Bluewater Health. James from Life Transitions has been a tremendous help guiding us through this tough process as well. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private graveside service with just family, as Julie wished. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a charitable donation to The Sarnia Braves Organization, to carry on with our family’s continuous support of Sarnia’s youth in sports. Online condolences are welcome at www.lifetransitions.ca In Lieu of Flowers follow this link.
