Obituary for Joseph Daykin

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam Joseph Henry Michael Daykin “Harry”, 70, died unexpectedly August 20th, 2022, at home in Chatham, Ontario.  He was born September 29th, 1951 in Belfast, Ireland, son of the late Joseph & Elizabeth Daykin. Fleeing The Troubles in Northern Ireland, Harry moved to Scarborough, Ontario, Canada to start a new life. Even though his home was in Canada, a piece of his heart never left Ireland. He enjoyed the rainy days that reminded him so much of where he came from. He enjoyed the simple things in life. An ice cream and a nice walk. He lived to make other people happy; to lift them up with praise and make them smile. Harry enjoyed telling jokes and his laugh was absolutely infectious! His family had nicknamed him “Happy Harry”. He was a devoted husband to his partner of 36 years and a loving father to his three children. Harry was a man of many talents, working in IT and also enjoying working with his hands as a carpenter. He mastered the strings on his guitar and loved to entertain everyone in his company. Harry was an avid reader with a deep rooted interest in history. He loved to educate the people around him. Above everything else was his faith and love for God. He would preach about Jesus to anybody willing to give him their time. “Travel lightly in this world, because your possessions will weigh you down”. Harry practiced and preached these words daily. He was nothing short of magnificent. In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his brother, Paddy. He is survived by his wife Hali, son Jason (Becky), daughters Ashleen and Shannon, brothers Paul and Damian, and sisters Lilian and Joan. In lieu of flowers, Harry’s family kindly asks that you consider making a donation to the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention or the Canadian Mental Health Association . Eternal rest grant unto Harry, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen
