A man’s worth cannot be judged by his possessions, but instead, should be measured by how rich he makes those around him feel. Joe Colby made everyone who met him feel like millionaires, simply by being himself. At approximately 10:30am, May 1, Joe left our world while in his wife’s arms. Joe spent the last thirty-one months living his best possible life, all the while affected with glioblastoma multiforme. Joe was a man whose presence instantly made everyone feel at-ease. He gave without ever wanting anything in return, helped without ever needing to be repaid, and loved his family with everything he had. His wife April and his son Joey were his entire world, as were his dogs Hotrod, Snapshot, Kodachrome, and his cat Ronald Weasley. He loved being outdoors, fixing whatever needed fixing, shooting and spending time with his large group of friends, all who he considered family, and all who miss him dearly. He will be eternally remembered and always missed by his parents Bill and Liz Colby, his sister Amanda Brooksbank and her husband Scott, his brother Rob King and his wife Darci, and his brother-in-law Richie Erickson. He will forever hold a special place in the heart of his mother-in- law Linda Erickson, and will be spending lots of time fishing in heaven with his father-in-law Richard Erickson. Joe is also survived by many loving aunts and uncles, as well as Dear Grandma Feltz.  Uncle Joe will continue to watch over his nieces Hannah and Joselyn Brooksbank, Taryn and Rhyan King and Savannah Last, and his nephew Deaven Brooksbank. Prior to his passing, Joe found love and comfort from his church Emmanuel Baptist of Chatham, and enjoyed new connections and wonderful friendships with many of its parishioners. Joe’s life was celebrated at Chatham Hospice, where he lived his last month of life entertaining and charming the nurses, PSWs, volunteers, and staff. A small service was held with his wife, son, mother-in-law, mother and father, sister and brother-in-law, niece, and sister- from-another-mister Tanya Sinnett, who always managed to make Joe smile. Joe wished to help families in the community the same way he, April and Joey were helped throughout his illness. The first-annual Average Joe Fundraiser will be held Saturday May 25 at the Kent Cloverleaf Club, with trapshooting beginning at 12, an informal drop in service at 4:30-6:00, and a meal of one of his favourites (all-you-can-eat tacos) starting at 6:30. Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate one of the kindest, most amazing souls to grace this earth.  “Sociable!”
