Obituary for Joanne Charity

On Sunday April 14, at 3:13 pm, Joanne Myra Charity (nee Dugan) passed away peacefully.  As in life, she was surrounded by her family: Trevor, her husband of sixteen years, her children: Kelly (Greg); Cindy (Jim); Richard; Joleen (Ian); and Donna. Her granddaughter Ashley, and her sons-in-law Charles and Jim, were also by her side as she slipped from this world into the next. Born on July 30, 1945 in Toronto Ontario, Joanne began life as a quiet child with a big imagination. She had dreams of becoming a teacher, but answered a larger calling when she became a mother.  She was a woman with a quick wit, big ideas, and a wanderer’s heart. She loved her family immensely and always wanted to be where they were. An avid gardener and a believer of fairies, Joanne could always be found with her hands in the dirt and her heart dreaming of Ireland.  Joanne is survived by 18 grandchildren (Nicole, Corinne, Joanna, Ashley, Jennifer, Matthew, Megan, Casper, Zachary, Corinna, Connor, Shayne, Danielle, Patrick, James, Shai, Lucas, and Lia) 3 great-grandchildren (Evelyn, Liam, and Ellianna) and many nieces and nephews. Crossing over to the other side, Joanne will be reunited with her daughters Roberta (1960-2014) and Robin; her brother John, and her sister Joyce. She will also be welcomed by her parents, Jim and Violet Dugan, and her best friend Chuck. Joanne worked for many years as a classroom assistant at Gateway Public School in Toronto. She loved helping children learn and discover the world. Friends became family to Joanne, and she was so proud of every achievement made by her *other* kids. She attended the graduations of past students, attended weddings, and baby showers—she was a Mum to many. She will be greatly missed. We will always search for her. But we know that she is at rest, and that she will continue to watch over us from above.
