James Edward Rutherford  – October 23, 1933 – January 13, 2021 His faith has now become sight, he is at home in heaven for all of eternity in his 88th year. Son of the late John M. and Marynel (Ridley) Rutherford. Jim met his wife in Leamington. Jim and Lee (Kornelsen) were married in 1959, they had 49 years together, Lee passed away in 2008. Jim is survived by his only daughter, Jane and her husband, Dennis. They have two sons, Brandon and fiancee, Lisa Campbell, and lan Jenner. Jim had an older brother, Barney, who died in October 1971. Also, he had a younger brother, Peter, who died in 1939. Jim lived his whole life in Blenheim. He attended elementary and high school there. He was very active in many sports throughout his whole life. He participated in track and field events and also played soccer during high school. As a teenager, he was also in the Air Cadet program and attained the highest ranking a cadet was able to achieve. He led the squadron for two years. He was one of 24 cadets from across Canada in 1950 to travel to the United Kingdom on an exchange program. The highlight of the trip was meeting King George VI at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Jim spent 40 years of his life working at Kent Grain and Feed Co. in Blenheim. His grandfather, James, built the mill in 1884. In 1926, the mill was destroyed by the largest fire known in Blenheim’s history. By the late 1940’s, his father, John, began to rebuild the mill. He eventually took over the family business in the 1950’s and ran it until the mid 1990’s. Jim loved to compete in sporting events such as baseball, softball, curling and badminton. He also loved golfing and rode his bike until he was 80 years old. In later years, he enjoyed going for walks around the town of Blenheim. In 1953, he joined the Golden Acres Curling Club and then served as the Secretary for over 25 years and then President during 1969 and 1970. He also, served as a Member of the Board of Trustees and the Chairman for one year at the local Community Golf Club. In 2000, Jim joined the Blenheim Freedom Library and Museum. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer for 12 years. Jim loved the Scriptures, both to study and debate. He was very active in his church, serving on the Deacon’s Board of two Baptist churches. He was also a teacher and children’s program leader. He was a lifelong servant. In retirement, Jim enjoyed writing and telling stories, especially about veterans, he loved military history. Throughout his life he loved music, dogs and reading. He also loved spending time with his two grandsons and was very proud of the men that they have become. He was also very proud of his Scottish heritage. He also, loved his Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Tigers. His favourite Bible verse was: 1 John 5:13 “These things have I written to you that believe in the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life and that you believe in the name of the Son of God”. Due to the covid times, there will be a private family service, Donations made be made to Maple City Baptist Church, Chatham or the Blenheim Freedom Library and Military Museum .
