Obituary for Jacoba Nydam (Leegwater)

Jacoba Nydam - 1928-2023

Jacoba Nydam (nee Leegwater) was called home into the loving arms of Jesus in her 95th year on May 24, 2023. Jacoba passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance after a short illness. She was born in Schermerhorn NL, daughter of the late Jan and Hendrikje Leegwater. Loving wife of the late Gerben Nydam (2010) for 59 years. Dearly loved mother of Fred (Laura) Nydam, Joanne (Ralph) Hamminga, Susan (Tom) Walter, John (Lisa) Nydam, Clarence (Angie) Nydam, Gary (Joanne) Nydam, and Anita (Calvin) Dreise. Cherished Oma to 31 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Corrie Vinke of the Netherlands and sister-in-law of Ida Divencenzo of Hamilton, and Lies, Annie and Renee of Holland.
Jacoba was predeceased by her son Fred (2010), 2 grandchildren, Kevin and Derek Nydam, son-in-law Robert Kennedy, and grandson-in-law Peter Wrobel.
She loved people, and her home was always open for company. As well as maintaining a home for her 7 children, she worked for Red Cross, she worked for Tele.care, and she taught Home Economics at the Christian School. She made numerous visits to shut ins and volunteered her time and talents at many places throughout her lifetime. Jacoba loved to sew and has made many clothes for the family, from snow suits to wedding dresses. She patiently taught her children and grandchildren how to sew, knit, and crochet. She was a long time member and supporter of the First Christian Reformed Church of Chatham, and Calvin Christian School.
Donations may be made to World Renew Fund Canada, or the Chatham Christian School.
Celebration of Life to be held at First Christian Reformed Church (25 Tweedsmuir Ave. E,. Chatham) with visitation from 9am - 10:45am, and service at 11am, Pastor Nate Van Denend officiating. Interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery, returning to the church for lite lunch and fellowship.
