Obituary for Ila Hawn

In loving memory of Ila Irene Hawn, who passed away at the Meadows of Wheatley Retirement Home in Wheatley, Ontario after a brief illness on Friday, July 1st, 2022, in her 100th year. Ila was the beloved wife of the late Elmore Hawn. They were married in Bracebridge in 1958, and led a full life together until Elmore’s passing in 1998. Dear mother of Ian (Nikoleta) and Elinor Hacon (Mark). Dearly loved and greatly missed by her grandchildren Eric (Lindsay), Andrew (Joss), Jessica, Patrick (Erryn), and Elizabeth (Ed), and great grandchildren Isla, Archer, Harrison, Amelia, Calvin, Griffin, Atley, Ava, and Ridley. Ila was born in Bracebridge on February 27th, 1923 to Ambrose and Florence Flaherty. Loving sister to Gerald and Iris, special cousin to Kathleen, and predeceased by sisters Lorraine and Margretta, and brother Robert. After attending high school in Bracebridge, Ila moved to the bright lights of Toronto and had a successful career working for various firms and stores. Upon marriage, she followed Elmore to the Hydro Camps of Northern Ontario where she became a devoted mother to Ian and Elinor. Eventually moving to Kincardine, Ila became a member of the Anglican “Church of the Messiah” and also the Order of the Eastern Star. Nothing though, made her happier than being around family and friends as they were the driving force behind the twinkle in her eye.  Always game for anything, her adventures included cottaging in Bracebridge, giving her granddaughter’s tuba a whirl, day trips, golf cart rides, and many games of scrabble, cards, and crossword puzzles.  Her quiet moments were filled with reading books, often five or six simultaneously. As per Ila’s wishes, there was no celebration of life or funeral. However, you are encouraged to reminisce on a good life well lived with joy in your heart and a smile on your face. She would have wanted it that way.  If you wish to make a donation in honour of Ila, please consider the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or the Church of the Messiah, Kincardine.
