Born in Digby, Nova Scotia, Ida was the beloved mother of Winnifred and her husband Mario Ocovich, Geraldine and her husband Gerard Verkaik (pre-deceased), Charlene and her husband Robert Sparenberg; Grandmother of Heather and her husband Rene Perron, Tina and her partner Gig Allely, Dave Ocovich, Mark and his wife June Verkaik, Sonja Verkaik Reeves, Aaron Sparenberg, Joel and his wife Heather Sparenberg; Great-grandmother of Eric Ocovich (pre-deceased) and Breanna Jordan, Timothy Ocovich and Marissa Ocovich, Johnny Verkaik and Justin Verkaik and Evan and Alex Sparenberg; Proud great- great-grandmother of Lexus, Aeden, Brooklyn, Noah, Ivy, Jace and Emmett. Ida was pre-deceased by her parents Lloyd and Hattie Collins, her brother Harry (Buster) and five sisters, Edith, Winnifred, Kathleen, Eva and Ada. Our family would like to extend their sincere thanks and humble gratitude to Paul DeMoor, Ida’s longtime building manager, Phylis her caring PSW, Allan and Heather Jones and James MacNeil from Life Transitions for his kindness and compassion to us during this time. We will be holding a small private service Tuesday, April 30 th 2019, 10am, at the Maple Leaf Cemetery chapel in Chatham with a small gathering of family and friends to follow. Sent on her way for cremation with the many birthday cards, postcards and letters received over all of her years, Ida will be reunited with her beautiful grandson Eric and loving son-in-law Gerard. Gramma will be fondly remembered for her strong, independent spirit, her warm and sometimes mischievous smile, and her love of chocolate, old spaghetti Westerns and her ‘’Timmies steeped tea’’. Friends wishing to remember Ida with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Chatham Kent Salvation Army or The Ontario Humane Society.
