Obituary for Gordon Duff

Gordon Duff Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on September 23, 2021, at the age of 79. Born in Chatham, he was the son of the late George and Marguerite Duff and brother of Ann Steele and the late George Duff Jr. Gord will be missed by his wife, Irene Duff “Bumm”, and his children, Genny (Andrew) Thiel and Gord Jr. (Stephanie) Duff. Gord will also be missed by sister and brother-in-law Ann and Richard Peck. He was a special grandpa and giver of big hugs to Alex and Anderson Thiel and Finlay, Hayden and Fiona Duff.  Gord grew up in the family business of Duff Motors in Dresden where he developed a deep love for cars, Fords in particular. He later ran Duffie Auto Sales in Chatham and in retirement was a regular attendee of local classic car events. He looked forward every year to staking out a prime spot on King Street during Retrofest and holding court all day in front of his spotless Grand Marquis. He loved nothing more than his daily routine, starting with a coffee at McDonald’s (nice and early, free refill, please) with the usual suspects, followed by round two of coffee and conversation, this time at Tim Horton’s on Park Ave. A really good day would also include a cruise around town in his truck, checking up on local construction projects and checking in on friends who were always happy to see him drive up. He had a smile and a wisecrack for anybody and a nickname for folks he was especially fond of. Irene, Genny and Gordie will miss him dearly.   The family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, in particular his favourite nurse who brought him a hot coffee every morning. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gord’s honour to the food bank.  Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gord’s life will be planned at a later date.
