Fredric (Fred) August Schaller 1938 – 2019 Fred passed away peacefully March 30, 2019 at Riverview Gardens, Chatham, Ontario, surrounded by the love of his family, in his 81 st  year. Born in Shakespeare, Ontario. on October 7, 1938 to August Schaller and Herta Kruger, he attended school in Stratford, Ontario and apprenticed as a tool and die maker at Fisher Bearings in Stratford. On November 17, 1962 he married Arlene Buchanan in Stratford, Ontario, and in 1963 he decided that he wanted to be an engineer. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1969 and then worked in iron foundries in Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. He began working in Daymond Aluminum in Chatham in 1988 as Design Engineer, and retired in 2005. Not enjoying retirement, he then trained and worked at Home Depot until 2013. Always exhibiting a keen attention to detail and a wry sense of humour, Fred had a passion for airplanes, enjoyed music, making home renovations, travelling in Canada and abroad, photography, stamp collecting, model-making and working in the garden with his wife Arlene. He was a former member of the Chatham Camera Club and a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. In later years, Fred participated in the Parkinson’s Superwalk until he was no longer able to do so. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a future date. Fred is survived by his wife Arlene of Chatham as well as their children Stephen (Pina Greco) of Greenfield Park, Quebec, Scott (Kim Clarke) of Chatham, Suzanne of Ottawa, and Stuart of Chatham. As well, he is fondly remembered and will be missed by his granddaughters Nicole and Jessica Schaller, who knew him as Opa, by his sisters Greta Tompkins of Stratford and Helen (Willi) Bauer of Kitchener, and by many nieces and nephews to whom he will always be Uncle Fred. Fred was predeceased by his parents and in 2018 by his brother Harold Frier, as well as brother-in-law John Tompkins and sister-in-law Lyle Frier.
