Obituary for Edward Olmsted

Edward Gerald “Ted” Olmsted passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Wallaceburg Hospital. Born in Toronto 92 years ago.  Son of the late Garfield Nicholas & Jessie (Olmstead). Beloved husband of Marie Louise (Roegiest) for 57 years. Father of Nick Olmsted & Tracy (Browning) and Paul Rock & Michelle (Olmsted). Grandfather of Jesse Olmsted & Alannah Byers, Kyle Olmsted & Kassandra (M ac Candless), Dylan Rock, Shelby Lee Olmsted and Tori Rock. Expectant Great grandfather in June 2022.  Ted is the brother of the late Leona “Nonie” (Nicholas) & Pat Burton. Also survived by Brother-In-Law: Robert Roegiest & LouAnne (Taylor), Sister-In-Law: Jeanetta Roegiest & Leonard Atkins, Sister-In-Law: Irma (Roegiest) & Lee Brunt (deceased), Brother-In-Law: Leon Roegiest & Michele (Vancoillie), Brother-In-Law: Charles Roegiest (deceased) & Cathy (Walsh), Brother-In-Law: Peter Roegiest & Tina (Laur).  Ted “Pappy” Olmsted was born on September 1, 1930 and grew up in Whitney, Ontario. Raised during the Great Depression, Ted was no stranger to work. He spent 70 years working full-time and still found time to help out whenever called upon by friends and family. If you asked for a hand his reply was always “yes”.  He proudly worked on tower duty (fire watch) in Algonquin Park and as a truck driver, a bush guide, a security guard, a waiter, a hydro worker and so much more. The majority of his work life was spent with Ontario Steel Products / Rockwell International in Chatham, ON. Family First was his life’s motto. He never missed a family gathering and could always find a clever one-liner and someone who hadn’t heard it. He was always up for a game of cards or darts and usually won. Music was his spirit and his soul. He wrote songs and performed with his guitar any time there was an audience. The kids in the family all call him “Pappy” and most of them have spent a lot of time under his roof and his guidance. He will be celebrated and missed for all time… Charitable Donations to charity of your choice in Ted’s name would be appreciated. All are welcome to attend a time of visitation on Friday January 28, 2022 from 6-9 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Wallaceburg.
