Obituary for Edna Lewis (Prince)

Edna G Lewis was born  in July of 1918. That means that she lived during a large part of our history.

The End of World War I

All of World War II.

Horse and Buggies to a Trip to the Moon.

Two Pandemics.

The Birth of Fast Food.

The Birth of TV.

From a Party Line to Cell Phones.

From Silent Films, to Talkies, to Movies on your phone.

She attended school in the one room schoolhouse in North Buxton Ontario.

She met Thurlow Lewis and when talking to him through the fence and Grandpa Stan saw her and said if you have time to talk to boys you have time to work in the fields. That was her last day of school.

She married Ernest Boyd  during their union they had four children. She later married Thurlow Lewis and they shared a son. She wanted to become a nurse and was going to start school, but Edith came along. When Edith got her degree Edna said “There’s my nurse”, and in another semester her great granddaughter will be a nurse as well.

She had a strong sense of family, she loved God and her community. She accepted Christ in 1954.  She was a long term member of Grace Chapel and later attended Community Church of God. She was generous and raised and donated funds for different ministries including Circle Y Ranch.

She liked to travel and went to Germany, Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada, multiple trips to British Columbia Canada, and she cherished her time on the Grandma’s trips with Shirley and Lauri.

She was an avid crafter and self taught seamstress and was known for the hand made gifts that she would prepare for  family and friends. She crocheted blankets for new graduates, newly married couples and newborn babies. She made hats, gloves, booties and clothing. She taught these skills to her granddaughters, Shirley, Lauri and Faith and leaves a legacy of family and students who crochet, sew and do needle work.

In her later years she enjoyed listening to Country Music, Steve Harvey and her soap stories.

The Sister of Evelyn, Earl, Betty, and Twins Vera and Veda.  Mother of Shirley(Larry), Stanley(Anne), Edith(Jerome), Douglas(Bernadette), and Robin(Hermione).  Grandmother to Lauri, Jay, Tracy, Lisa, Laura(Don), Shirley, Patty, Ricky, Faith(Brian), Steven and Derrick.  Great Grandmother to Seventeen.Great Great Grandmother to nine.  She was a friend to many.  And the Child of Stanley and Gertrude.

Visitation time will be Friday September 9, 2022 from 10 am until Funeral service at 11 am at North Buxton Community Church. Burial to follow in North Buxton Memorial Cemetery.
