Douglas John Farrell passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2019 in his 74th year. Son of the late Gordon and Jean (Elliott) Farrell. Cherished husband of Charline (Lohnes) Farrell for fifty-three years. Devoted father to Ryan Alexander Farrell (Amanda) and Alison Jean Elizabeth Farrell (Eric). Predeceased by son Christopher Douglas Farrell. Beloved Papa to Alex and Kacey Vince and Jean and Nora Farrell. Step-Grandfather to Joslyn, Aeowyn and Kaelyn Dunlop. Brother of Dianne Sullivan (Tom) of Vancouver, BC and Joan Farrell of Toronto, ON. Brother-in-law of Tracy Lord(d), George Lord(d), Ruth Griffith, Arlington Heights, Illinois, Harold Lord(d), Paul Lord, London Ontario, Cynthia Rayman, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Lloyd Lord, Ocala, Florida, Mary Lord, Gainsville, Georgia, Frances Offenburger(d), Alice Platten, Orillia, Ontario, Harold Lohnes(d), Frank Lohnes(d), Dorothy Culin (Fred), North Bay, Ontario, Ruth Wyatt, (Clair) Winnipeg, MB and Evelyn Sanders(d). Uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Doug spent most of his working life in the financial sector, with Bank of Montreal for twelve years, and Royal Bank of Canada for twenty four years. Doug enjoyed many years of service with Kinsmen Clubs in Simcoe, Tillsonburg, Niagara Falls, Welland, and Essex. He served on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers in Elmira. Doug participated in curling for several years, but his life long passion was the game of golf. Willow Ridge Golf and Country Club was his preferred course for his last eighteen years. He enjoyed golf games, tournaments, and numerous trips to several US States with his golf friends. While the last seven months of his life were filled with many medical challenges, his golf buddies, Charline’s friends, and his children showed him how much he was loved and supported. Doug Farrell will be remembered as a man of integrity, a good friend, a gentleman, and most of all as a proud and loving husband, father and Papa. He will be truly missed. As per Doug’s wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date, and in late spring, a graveside service will be held at Ripley Cemetery, Ripley, Ontario, when Doug’s ashes will be buried beside his son Christopher Douglas. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Doug’s honour are asked to consider the Chatham-Kent Hospice. A life well lived, well enjoyed, and one to celebrate.
