Obituary for Dorothy White

Dorothy May (Wicks) White July 15, 1941 – December 14th, 2022.

Dorothy (Wicks) White, of Chatham, Ontario, 81 years of age, was “Promoted to Glory”, and welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, with family by her side, at the Chatham-Kent Hospice. She is predeceased by her husband George White (1992) and eldest son, Robert White (2021). Survived by her children, MaryLin Howard (David); Larry White; and Daughter-in-Law Pam White (Robert); Grandchildren, Joshua Howard (Tina), Bethany Dueck (Brian), Timothy Gayfer (Brianne) and Kathleen White (Daven); Great Grandchildren: Abigail, Julian and Harrison Howard; Sophia and Llewella Dueck; Addie Gayfer; Siblings, Eva Bellamy (dec’d Walter); Ronald Wicks (Trixie); Wayne Wicks (Esther), Sister-in-Law Edith (dec’d Richard) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born July 15th, 1941, in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan to George and Verna Wicks. In the early 1950’s her family moved to Edmonton. As a youth she was very involved, along with her parents and siblings, in The Salvation Army in Edmonton. She was a Junior Soldier, Senior Soldier, and Corps Cadet, as well as a member of the Singing Company, and often sang at Church meetings with her family.
Dorothy and George White (dec’d 1992) married in 1960 and soon after moved to Ontario. Together they had three children: Robert (dec’d 2021), MaryLin and Larry.
She returned to Edmonton in 1980 where she lived for 13 years before moving back to Ontario to reside in Chatham and be close to family.

Dorothy was a proud Soldier of The Salvation Army, Chatham-Kent Ministries and enjoyed sharing her faith with others.

We would like to thank all the caregivers for their kindness in caring for our Mom, including: Home Care and Community Support Services (HCCSS); March of Dimes PSW’s; OT’s; Nurses, Amanda and Olga; The wonderful Nursing Staff and Doctor of the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held at The Salvation Army, 46 Orangewood Blvd., Chatham on Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm, officiated by Captain Joshua Howard (grandson) and Captain Bethany Dueck (granddaughter).

A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Memorial donations may be directed to The Salvation Army, Chatham-Kent Ministries; or, to a Group Donation, which will be presented to the Chatham-Kent Hospice as a combined donation, so that Dorothy’s name will be displayed on the Memorial Donors List.
