Obituary for Dorothy “Dot”

It is with a heavy heart that we say farewell to a beautiful woman, Dorothy Jean MacKinnon, mother, wife, daughter, who passed away on Sunday December 15, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Dear daughter of the late Earl and Hazel Kearns. Beloved wife of the late Alexander MacKinnon. Loving mother of Stephanie MacKinnon and Neil MacKinnon and his wife, Lisa. Adored grandmother of Dallas MacKinnon, Daniel MacKinnon, Amber and her husband, Jeremy Blue, and Jerad MacKinnon and great-grandson, Trenton Hyatt. Dot was the fifth child of ten siblings: the late Bob and Fran Kearns; the late Phyllis and Dave Gakeff; Shirley Bertrand; Margaret and the late Jim Dufour; Nancy and the late Mike Yankovic; the late Josephine Perkins; the late Marilyn Gray; Mike Kearns; and Jo-Anne Kearns. Dot held a special place in the hearts of Alexander’s family: his parents, the late Archie and Susanna MacKinnon, and his siblings, Mary MacKinnon; the late George and his wife, Joyce MacKinnon; Lorraine, Ron Gauthier and numerous nieces and nephews.    Dorothy had a large heart, raising a family and helping others. All were welcome in her home, in the summer, friends, cousins and other relatives would come stay with us. She worked hard all her life, before finally retiring Dorothy delivered prescriptions for Shoppers Drug Mart. She loved gardening, canning and baking. Dorothy loved her family and would defend it fiercely, she was a devout friend and those close to her called her Dot. Her kind gentle heart cared for many orphaned and injured animals. Any stray that found its way to our door found a home. We ran out of room for the many bowling trophies she won. Dorothy will be deeply missed and her passing leaves a large  hole. A Celebration of Dot’s life will be announced at a later date.
