Obituary for Donna Baker

Donna Joyce Baker (born Barradell)
March 17, 1944 – October 31, 2017
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the death of Donna Joyce Baker who passed away peacefully in her home on October 31, surrounded by her family and the beauty of the Bruce Peninsula. Born to Cecil and Gladys Barradell, Donna grew up alongside her brother Bob Barradell on the family farm outside of Paradise Hill, SK. She left home to attend school in Saskatoon where she met and married her husband of 52 years, John Baker. Shortly after moving to Ontario, Donna and John became parents to Sean David Baker and Laurel Jean Baker Martin and raised their family in Elmira, ON. Donna was very intentional in demonstrating unconditional love to her children. Among her many contributions to community life in the Elmira area, Donna gave years of dedicated leadership to the Girl Guides of Canada. Shortly after retiring in the beautiful village of Lion’s Head, ON, Donna and John welcomed their son-in law Phil Martin to the family and became grandparents to Korah Martin and Jasmine Martin. In Lion’s Head, Donna once again poured love and dedication into community building — dedicating time to her various leadership roles in the Bruce Trail Association and as aBruce Peninsula Hospice volunteer and leader. Both of these organizations, and the many people within them, are better today because of the hard-work and generous support of Donna. She delighted in nature and anyone who knew Donna was impacted by her generous sense of welcoming and her inner drive to work unselfishly in the service of others. She was rich in family and friendships and remained faithful to these connections throughout her lifetime. In recent years Donna was thrilled to welcome into the family Sean’s partner, Sarah Goldwin and her son Adam. Among the family already mentioned, Donna also leaves behind sister-in-law, Norma Barradell, brother-in-law Jim and wife Laura Baker, nephews Todd Baker and John Paul Baker, and niece Leslie Baker as well as countless friends who share in the family’s grief. Informal gatherings of shared love and memories will take place on November 4 and 5 between the hours of 10 a.m and 4 p.m. at her home — 95 Moore Street, Lion’s Head, ON. All are welcome. Please honour her wishes and resist sending flowers. Instead, direct your gifts towards Bruce Peninsula Hospice, Bruce Trail Association, or a charity of your choice.
