Obituary for Cyriel Van Bastelaar
VAN BASTELAAR, Cyriel Paul
April 3, 1931 – January 12, 2017 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our father Cyriel on January 12, 2017 at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving wife, Florence (Faubert) Van Bastelaar of 65 years. Loving and cherished father of Evelyn (Rod) Dean of Ohio, the late Pauline (Tom) Stevenson of Texas, Irene (James) McClymont, son Roger, Raymond (late Shelley Green), Edward of Calary and the late infant son Robert, and one surviving sister Mary (Roger) Van Vaerenberghe. He leaves behind many precious grand children, Ann-Marie (David) Delrue, Jacqueline McClymont, Karen (Darren) Cocchetto, Laura, Matthew, Ben, (late) Jennifer, Robert and several great grand children, Chloe, Octavious, Kaitlyn, Megan, Lily, Jack, Hudson, Case and Jade. Predeceased by his parents Corneilius and Louisia(Danckaert) and 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Cyriel was a retiree of (International Harvester) Navistar of 30 years service. Cyriel prided himself as one of the first “30 years and out” retirees of Navistar along with being retired longer than he worked. During his retirement, he enjoyed his passion of hunting and fishing. In Cyriel’s earlier years, his accomplishments were many – he earned a Green Belt in Judo, was one of the Separate School Board Trustees who supported the building of St. Agnes School in Chatham, recipient of many fishing tournament trophies and was known in his younger years to be a sought-after as an industrial painter for a number of local businesses. He also received recognition for his outstanding contribution of volunteer service from the Ministry of Natural Resources supporting the “Lake Erie Angler Diary Programme” which helped manage Ontario’s rich natural heritage. A very special “thank you” to all staff at Hudson Manor in Tilbury for their above and beyond care of our Dad (and Mom) in his last days. To the staff of Hospice (Chatham), you were special angels who assisted our family during the most difficult of times. In memory of Cyriel, donations may be made in memory of Cyriel to Hospice of Chatham and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.lifetransitions.ca. At Cyriel’s request cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a future date.
